Kid’s Table Craft: Napkin Rings

The kid’s table. In some families, it’s a thing of legend. The tables off to the side covered in paper so the kids can draw on the “tablecloth”, the paper plates in bright, festive colors at each setting, and the centerpiece that ends up being a source of entertainment for the little ones.

Whether or not your family has a kid’s table, these napkin rings are still a fun craft to make during the fall season. Use them at Thanksgiving or at a dressed-up snack time. The best part is everything you need is (most likely) already in your house. No trip to the craft store needed–just have fun!

How to Make Napkin Rings

You will need:

Toilet paper rolls (each roll makes 3 rings)
Cardboard from a cereal box (or other cardboard box) for leaves
Scissors
Pencil
Orange colored pencils (or crayons)
Black Brush Pen
White gel pen for highlights
Glue or double-stick tape

To create the napkin rings, cut a toilet paper roll in thirds. You might need to gently press the cardboard flat in order to cut straight across. Don’t bend the cardboard too much or the crease will stay. Use the brush pen to draw lines around the ring. Set aside.

Draw leaf shapes as shown below on the extra piece of cardboard. I took off the lid of a cereal box to create mine.

Draw leaf shapes with the pencil, color them in with the colored pencil, and outline with the brush pen. At this point, you can add some highlights with a white gel pen but you don’t have to. Cut each leaf out.

Put a small piece of double-stick tape on the back of each leaf and press them onto the ring. Continue until you have three leaves on each ring.

Depending on the ages of the kids, you can have the supplies set out to make this craft or have it nearly completed so they only have to assemble it. This would also be really cute if you drew a pumpkin instead of leaves.

Have a lovely {and creative} day!
